This University of Portsmouth MSc research is exploring how interoperability affects crisis communication and public engagement during major incidents. The study aims to understand how communication is experienced in practice by emergency response professionals and what may support more effective future practice.
ABOUT THE STUDY
Why is this research being carried out?
Major disaster operations require organisations and practitioners to work across professional, organisational and cultural boundaries. At the same time, information must be coordinated and communicated clearly to the public, often under considerable pressure and uncertainty.
This study is exploring practitioners’ experiences of multi-agency working, crisis communication and public engagement. It is particularly interested in the factors that make coordination and communication easier or more difficult during major incidents.
The research forms part of an MSc in Crisis & Disaster Management at the University of Portsmouth. Findings will be based on the experiences and perspectives shared by participants rather than on a predetermined conclusion.
